14 Last Call: Crumbling Within

Crumbling Within

Just the thought of a hug
stirs an emotional rock slide
threatening to unravel
the carefully woven shield
surrounding the loss
yet to be dealt with.

It's a mistake
keeping it buried within
but the only remedy
that ever worked to clear
away the looming boulders
was the feel of your arms
wrapped around me.

I was hoping to try to escape myself for a little bit, try to find something outside of me to write about...something random like traffic lights.  But this week's Three Word Wednesday [3WW=>careful(ly), hug, mistake] seemed to have something else in mind.  Odd though, because I look at the words (even read them aloud several dozen times) and I do feel disconnected.  Maybe that is more about the emotions rolling around than the actual poem, but at the moment I'll be truthful and say I don't much care for this piece...maybe time will change that...

I've decided to double up this week and so ...

This is my offerings for this week's dVerse Poets Pub OpenLinkNight. If you get a chance, check out all of the talented poets who have stepped up into the spotlight.

  1. this is a felt piece...i'm quite good with weaving shields but over the years have learned to let them go and accept if someone offers a hug and to ease the burden a bit.. though i know it's hard in the face of loss..

  2. This is a very poignant and emotional type piece. Isn't it strange how certain words make us go in a certain direction? I don't know about you, but if someone gives me a group of words i don't like, i move on to another group.

  3. ah...felt piece for sure...wonder why it is we try to hold onto those...maybe even fool ourselves into thinking we wont have to deal with it....but you have to enter the pain...

  4. I say if a hug and tear down the walls that easily, then the walls are begging to come down. Let em topple. This was a good read.

  5. Wow, the power of a hug -- a great reminder! Thank you

  6. very well put! a hug could move boulders, break the wall and the ice! wonder why we hold on..ego perhaps?

  7. Sometimes hugs can be dangerous things. They can break that thin string that keeps us bound to self-control, and sanity.

  8. the need for love is deep...the need for touch...thank you..

  9. There IS something about a hug. We all need them.

  10. I nominated you for the Liebster Award see

  11. Well, I really like it. The emotions you convey are palpable... sending a virtual hug.

  12. I like the warmth of the hug, it does dispel any negative thoughts ~

Wishing you happy day or night ~
